Asteroid never referred to as a minor planet or planetoid, are objects smaller than planets but larger than meteoroids, generally found in the inner solar system. The characteristics of the asteroid is

1. Derived from dust and ice
2. Does not produce light
3. The shape is not larger than dwarf planet
4. Located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter (the asteroid belt)
5. is a relatively small celestial bodies and inactive
6. There are thousands in the solar system
